Hi there. I personally welcome you to my virtual classroom. Well not the typical classroom where you can see the board with the teacher's table in front, and the chairs of students neatly arranged in columns and lines. But this classroom that I am trying to establish is to allow myself be inline with the 21st century mode of learning, where technology is fast becoming an integral component of the learning process. Also, students are the star of the class and the teacher is the facilitator. This site is where I channel what I know.
I intentionally set-up this free website (I can teach how) for my students to access the learning materials anytime they want it, and anywhere they like it (thanks to wix.com). However, these learning materials are not only for them, but also for everyone who deems it important in their studies.
So let me share to you some guidelines as you browse over this site.
1. We grow together.
Teaching is not the end of learning. In fact, the more you teach the more you learn. The 21st century teachers must realize that the internet is already a mine field where students can access information more than what were discussed inside the classroom. That's why, in this classroom I greatly appreciate interactions (comments, questions, suggestions) that come from my students.
2. Browse the site.
The section 'Articles' is where I usually publish my opinions and understanding on various subject matter. Since I am a student of Biology (and always will be), most of the entries are science and technology-related. There are also entries on other opinions that I have such as reflections. In the 'Downloads' section, this is where files that I used for my physical class can be found. This can be syllabi, lecture notes, powerpoint presentation, etc. As of the moment I have included only two classes, namely: Science, Technology and Society, and History and Philosophy of Science. There might be updates once in a while.
You can filter the articles by choosing the related categories that I set per article.
Also expect that there are articles on photography and filmmaking since I am into those things (still a beginner though).
3. We are on Facebook!!!!
Each time I publish an article, I will be posting it on my facebook page. So if you are into my class, liking the page is highly appreciated. Here's the link to my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/EOKlassrum. Or search @EOKlassrum
4. Expect for a Vlog.
In the not so distant future, I will be posting video edition of the articles that I wrote since I believe that there are learners that preferred watching videos than reading articles. I will first set-up my official youtube channel where you can subscribe and like the posts. Should there be any posted videos on youtube, I will be posting it on facebook and link it to the 'Video' section.
5. Suggest a topic, or ask a question.
I will be glad if you will suggest a topic for me to write or to vlog. Or you can raise a question for me to answer. (See number 1)
6. Share
I will share what I know, please share what you know (of course those that are needed for learning) (See again number 1).
So that's it for now. Welcome to the klass!
